SUMMARY:Her Table: Parent Cafe
DESCRIPTION:For Her is excited to partner with Child Safe for our Parent Cafe Series. Caregivers and their partners are invited to engage in conversations with other parents as we explore how to be more present for our families while also taking the time to take better care of ourselves. Each session in the four part series explores a different aspect of parenting. We invite you to participate in some or all of the sessions. \nAs parents\, it’s easy to put everyone else’s needs before our own. But caring for yourself isn’t a luxury-it’s an important part of caring for your family. Join us for a Parent Cafe where we’ll chat about simple ways to make time for ourselves-without the guilt. Come and connect  with other parents and share experiences and leave with a few practical ideas to help you feel your best. \nUpcoming Sessions: \nOctober 7- Making Ends Meet \nNovember 18- Nurturing Seeds to Grow Strong Families \nDecember 16- Calm the Stress Down \nFacilitator: Felicia Avalos \nFelicia Avalos graduated from Texas A&M-San Antonio with a Bachelor of Science. She worked in the teaching profession for 10 years\, teaching elementary and middle school levels. During her career in education\, she spearheaded projects that helped children learn and grow. She also served as a team lead and advocated for fellow teachers. She later transitioned into the nonprofit sector\, where she is an Education Specialist at ChildSafe. She continues partnering with schools to promote child safety\, trauma-informed practices\, and a better future for all children everywhere. She remains dedicated to empowering families and strengthening communities through education and advocacy. \nFor Her Code of Conduct

SUMMARY:Pottery Workshop with SAMA: Celebrating Women's History Month
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the second part of our art making workshop series in partnership with the San Antonio Museum of Art\, celebrating Women’s History Month through the work of renowned potter Maria Martinez. \nInspired by SAMA’s current exhibition Canvas to Clay: Georgia O’Keeffe & Maria Martinez to Mata Ortiz & Tonalá\, this hands-on workshop invites you to explore Martinez’s masterful pottery and create your own ceramic vessel in her tradition. We’ll begin with an introduction to Martinez’s life and legacy\, discovering how she revived ancient Pueblo pottery techniques and became one of the most celebrated Native American artists of the 20th century.  \nThen it’s time to create! Using ceramic low-fire clay and a traditional hand coiling method\, you’ll build your own pot\, focusing on the form and shape of your vessel. No pottery experience necessary; this workshop is about connecting with an ancient art form and honoring the creative spirit within you. \nYour pottery will be left to dry and then fired in a kiln at Road Runner Ceramics (the museum will handle all firing and transportation). You can pick up your finished artwork at For Her 1-2 weeks after the class. \nAll materials provided. Childcare available. Light refreshments served.
